October 29, 2000:
Entrance: Street Grating
Exit: THE HUB!
Hey, [NAME REMOVED] here. Just one of the local Urban Explorers at PSU, taking
over for [NAME REMOVED] this time around.
It's nearly midnight when all 3 of us finally get outside and do some exploration.
We first decided to explore some local storm drains. That was a bust. The tunnels
weren't tall enough for us to extend our legs the full way and it quickly became
quite a pain. So we staggered out and headed to the steam tunnels.
We entered the tunnels the same way we have in the past, through a street grating.
As the steam blasted my face I felt at home again. We started our quest down
the tunnels with an agenda in mind. [NAME REMOVED] decided early on that he
wanted to infiltrate a building that night and we decided on the Hub, a rather
well known part of town. He knew where he was going, and we found the entrance
rather effortlessly.
Tip: When actualy infiltrating a building, or even entering and place that COULD
be populated, always turn off your light source. It is rather hard to see but
as long as you know what you're doing you should be fine, and you can't risk
some pesky night janitor seeing a flood light piercing through a crack under
the door.
We carefully open the door and find ourselves in a room where all the old steam
equipment and water heaters are. We all enter and let the door shut behind us.
We stand back as we check another door that leads the the inards of the Hub.
[NAME REMOVED] quickly finds that there's someone standing right outside. We
scramble to the door that leads to the tunnels and.. shit! It's locked from
the outside. We were stuck inside the Hub.
As we all contemplate the possibility of being found and charged with breaking
and entering and tresspassing, we search desparetly to find another exit, but
to no avail. We swallow hard and decide to leave through the inards of the Hub.
We check the door for people again, this time the coast is clear and we take
advantage of it. We finally find an exit that leads outside and are clear of
all danger.
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! Always leave doors open just for safety's sake.
It almost killed us. Meanwhile we may just be infiltrating more of the PSU campus,
always keeping inmind this little lesson.
